Botox Treatments

As we age the frontalis muscle in our forehead starts to weaken which causes our eyebrows to drop down. This can be a mild droop or quite dramatic whereby the upper eyelid skin hangs over the lashes. By injecting BOTOX® into the forehead you can raise up the eyebrow to a more aesthetically pleasing position. Different types of brow lifts can be achieved, this can be raising up the middle of the brow to create an arch, raising the end of the brow which opens up the outer eye and can improve the appearance of crows feet. A subtle brow lift can change the shape of the brow, create a more youthful appearance and make putting make up on a little easier.

You will be fully consulted on which type of brow lift you wish to achieve and this can be demonstrated in a mirror so you can see the potential results. A brow lift can also be achieved by injecting a smal amount of dermal filler under the brow to lift up in that area, this dermal filler lift will only improve the brow position by approximately 2 - 3 mm and is therefore not suitable to everyone.

Botox Injections

BOTOX® Brow Lift - Typically used for the cosmetic treatment of frown lines, crows feet and horizontal forehead lines. It can also be used for dynamic lines in the lower face, neck and in the treatment of excessive sweating of the underarms as well as muscle spasms in adults and children who have cerebral palsy.

  • What happens? - A series of small injections are made into the muscle which will allow the product to reduce or eliminate muscular contraction. When the muscle cannot move, lines in the skin will diminish resulting in a more youthful appearance.
  • Am I suitable for treatment? - Not everyone is suitable for this treatment. A thorough consultation with our nurse prescriber will ascertain whether you are suitable for this type of treatment. Other options will be discussed and a treatment plan will be put together to suit your requirements and expectations.
  • Does it hurt? - A very fine needle is used so the treatment is not painful. You will experience nothing more that a slight pinch in certain areas.
  • How long will it last? - First treatments typically last 3-6 months. The more you keep up with the treatments the longer they will last meaning you could eventually gain up to 9 months from each treatment.
  • Will I look frozen? - The results that you want to achieve will be discussed during your free of charge consultation. The frozen look is possible, however, many clients are now choosing a more natural appearance. Whether you want to eradicate all movement or retain an element of movement, SMOOTH Medical will help you achieve this.
  • How does it work? - BOTOX® works by temporarily blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called Acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that causes the muscle to contract. When Acetylcholine is blocked your muscle will be unable to move e.g. frown. Results are normally seen within 7 - 14 days.
  • Are there any side effects? - As with any treatments, there are associated side effects, the most common ones are redness, swelling and bruising. There are other side effects which you are probably not going to get as they are very rare and temporary, they include headache, allergic reactions, infection, visual disturbances, heaviness in the eyelids, watery eyes or drooping of the brow or eyelid which can be avoided through a safe injection technique and by following the aftercare that you will be given. Whilst these side effects are rare, if they do occur they can sometimes be corrected.
